Searching for Lessons

The Browse screen allows you to search all the available content for a language to find specific lessons.{{#mobile}} Note: In offline mode, searches will only find lessons that you have already downloaded.{{/mobile}}

To search for specific lessons on the Browse screen:

Tap SEARCH.
Type the text you want to find in the Search field. Searches are not case-sensitive, and you can enter any of the following:

All or part of a lesson name{{^mobile}} or description{{/mobile}}.
All or part of the name of the person, company, or organization that created a lesson.
All or part of a tag associated with the lesson.
All or part of a word or phrase that you want to learn.{{^phone}} (If necessary, you can {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}} {{^mobile}}{{/mobile}}{{#mobile}}{{/mobile}} to display the virtual keyboard to help you type any special characters used in the word or phrase.{{/phone}}{{#web}} Use the help button on the keyboard for more detailed typing information.{{/web}})
All or part of a comment, hint, or transliteration associated with a word or phrase you want to learn.

If you prefer, use any of the following options to further refine your search:

Put the search term in quotation marks to limit results to exact matches. Otherwise, exact matches will be listed first, followed by partial matches. For example, a search on bus stop without quotes would find any lessons or vocab items that include the word bus and/or the word stop, while a search for "bus stop" in quotes would only return results that include bus stop as a phrase.
Use the word AND between two words (or two phrases in quotes) to specify that the results must include both terms. For example, a search on bus AND stop would find bus stop and Stop the bus! because those results include both terms. It would not find bus driver or Stop walking. because those phrases each only include one of the terms. If necessary, you can use more than one AND in a search. For example, you could search on bus AND stop AND mall to limit results to phrases that include all three of those terms, such as Get off at the bus stop near the mall.
Use a plus sign directly in front of a word (or in front of a phrase in quotes) to specify that the results must include that term. For example, a search on bus stop +here would find Does the bus stop here?, Stop here., and Is the bus here yet?, but would not find Stop the bus! or bus stop.
Use a hyphen (minus sign) directly in front of a word (or in front of a phrase in quotes) to specify that the results should not include that term. For example, a search on bus -stop would find Take the bus. and bus driver, but would not find Stop the bus! or bus stop.

If you prefer, {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}} ADVANCED SEARCH{{#phone}} {{/phone}}, then mark the checkboxes next to fields you want to search and clear the checkboxes next to fields you do not want to search. By default, all fields except Description and Tags are selected.
When ready, {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}} {{#web}}{{/web}}{{#phone}}{{/phone}}{{#mobile}}{{/mobile}}{{#web}} or press the Enter key{{/web}} to run the search. Your search results may include lessons and/or individual vocab items.
{{#web}}Click{{/web}}{{^web}}Tap{{/web}} the LESSONS tab in the search area to display any lessons found by your search. You can choose how many results appear per page by choosing a number in the{{^phone}} Per Page{{/phone}} menu{{#phone}} above the search area{{/phone}}. If there is more than one page of results, you can use the {{^phone}} and buttons or the numbers between them to navigate through the list, or enter a number in the Jump To menu to go directly to that page{{/phone}}{{#phone}} buttons to navigate through the list, or enter a number in the field between them to go directly to that page{{/phone}}. While the lessons are shown, you can also do any of the following:

To download a lesson, tap . This feature is not available in offline mode. Note: If lesson you are trying to download is part of a course, the program will display a message indicating that the entire course will be downloaded, not just the individual lesson. Tap DOWNLOAD on that message to complete the download.
To open a {{#mobile}}downloaded {{/mobile}}lesson without adding it to your learning path, {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}}{{^phone}} the button beside{{/phone}} it{{^phone}}, which may be LEARN, START, REVIEW, READ, or OPEN depending on the type of lesson{{/phone}}.
To add a lesson to your learning path, {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}}{{^phone}} beside it, or {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}}{{/phone}} then {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}} ADD TO MY PATH.
To remove a lesson from your learning path if it is already in it, {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}}{{^phone}} , or {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}}{{/phone}} then {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}} REMOVE FROM MY PATH. The lesson will not be deleted, but will no longer appear in your learning path. Any words or phrases that you have learned from it will remain in your learned vocab.
To display the vocab items included in a lesson, {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}} then {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}} VIEW {{^mobile}}VOCAB{{/mobile}}{{#mobile}}CONTENT{{/mobile}}. (This option may not be available for all lessons.)
To add a lesson to your RSS feed, click then {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}} ADD TO RSS FEED. This option will not be available for all lessons, and may not be available in all versions of the program.
To mark a {{#mobile}}downloaded {{/mobile}}lesson as learned because you already know the words and phrases it contains, {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}} then {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}} MARK AS LEARNED. All the vocab items from the lesson will be added to your learned vocab, and the lesson will be considered completed. (This option may not be available for all lessons{{#mobile}}, and it is not available for any lessons in offline mode{{/mobile}}.)
To export a lesson that focuses on vocabulary as a .b4x file for import in other Transparent Language programs, click then {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}} EXPORT AS B4X. (This option will not be available for all lessons.){{/rr5}}{{/web}} {{#mobile}}
To delete a downloaded lesson from your device, tap then {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}} DELETE FROM DEVICE. The files for the lesson will be removed from the current device, although any words or phrases that you have learned from it will remain in your learned vocab. You can download the lesson again at any time.
To share a link to a lesson with another user, {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}} then {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}} GET SHAREABLE LINK.{{#web}} You can copy the link to the Clipboard, then paste it in another program to send it to someone else.{{/web}} Consult Sharing Links to Lessons for details. (This option will not be available for all lessons.)

{{#web}}Click{{/web}}{{^web}}Tap{{/web}} the WORDS & PHRASES tab in the search area to display any individual vocab items found by your search. To clear the search and open the category that contains the lesson in which a vocab item is found, {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}} {{#web}}{{/web}}{{#phone}}{{/phone}}{{#mobile}}{{/mobile}} then {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}} Go to Category.

Note: If the screen shows words or phrases which do not appear to have your search term in either the learning language or known language text, the search term was probably found in another field, such a comment, hint, or description. You can use the Advanced Search options to exclude these fields from searches if you prefer. Also note that for sign languages, the learning language will be replaced with a link to view a video of the sign.

When you are ready to clear your search results, {{#web}}click{{/web}}{{^web}}tap{{/web}} {{#web}} beside{{/web}}{{#phone}} in{{/phone}}{{#mobile}} beside{{/mobile}} the Search field{{#phone}} or at the top of the screen{{/phone}}.
